Bookshelves can be used for a plethora of things. They are so functional and purposeful. You can use them to display a collection of your favorite things. They can also be used to display family photos. I got these from Target that I use to display my heels in my closet room (tour coming soon).
If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram then you know that I scored this beautiful vintage étagère on Craigslist for $40! I mean seriously, $40? I immediately left work early so that I could hurry up and get this before anyone snatched it up. IT.IS. AMAZING! It’s one of my greatest finds yet. I finally got around to styling it with some of my thrifted, yard sale, Ross, Target, Marshalls, and Dollar Store finds. Yall know that I’m a girl on a budget!
I first started with some Dollar Store books and old magazines. I found books that were pretty and colorful, and would stand out again my walls. I then positioned them on different shelves, by lying some flat, stacking them on their sides, and even piling the magazines sky high.
Next, I started playing with pieces of pottery, glass heads, and bowls, anything that would create symmetry. I added art, by leaning it against the wall, and threw in a few whimsical figurines. And you can never go wrong with adding plants! I plan to add marble contact paper to the bottom shelf and then add a few accessories to that area! It hasn’t arrived yet (that’s why it’s empty). But I wanted to go ahead and get the post up.
I absolutely love the look of the gold étagère. If you’re looking for something similar, try scouring your local thrift stores, yard sales, and of course Craigslist. These things will take time and patience. However, if you’re antsy and can’t want to wait, you can make your own! Here’s how with a few simple things:
Now start styling!
