Black by Demand
I have surely missed you guys! This thing called life has been battling with my ability to post as often as I would like. Hopefully, I’ll be back on track shortly. But enough about that. Have you noticed something different about me???? I cut my hair (the BIG CHOP as they would call it in the natural world)!! I’ve decided to go natural, so I cut it off so that I could start fresh. If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter, then this is no surprise for you. Every time I look in the mirror, I’m a little startled because I’ve never had my hair this short before. It is going to take a minute to get used to this. I’ll be so happy when it starts growing. I don’t plan on keeping it short. I want big, pretty hair!! Have you noticed something else different? My glasses!!! Yes, I wear glasses, but they have yet to make a debut on my blog until now. Most of the time I wear my contacts, but my eyes needed a break this day.

Skirt: Gift from Reiko, Tank & Belt (men’s): Old Navy, Blazer: Charlotte Russe, Clutch: Curly in the City, Ring: H&M, Shoes: Steve Madden, Necklace: eBay

How amazing is this vintage necklace!!! Can you believe I only paid $1.49 (plus $2 shipping) for this? It also came with the matching bracelet. I found it on eBay. If you’re an avid eBay shopper, then you know the quality of items on there can be hit or miss. I couldn’t believe the quality of these pieces. As of late, I have found so many vintage necklaces on eBay. I’ll try to do a post on all of the things I’ve found.

So what do you think of my new hair? Any hair products you suggest?
Talk to you soon,

February 20, 2012 at 4:48 pmYAY! The skirt appears! You look fab! Great styling! You are courageous to do the Big Chop…I was too afraid, I just transitioned with protective styles.
I am enjoying the black and brown combo!

February 20, 2012 at 7:32 pmThe cut looks amazing on you! The only products I can suggest are natural oils like Coconut oil. Just try to maintain moisture to prevent breaking.

February 20, 2012 at 8:10 pmCongrats on your natural journey. The cut looks great on you, you pull it off well. Love this all black too, very nice pieces.

February 20, 2012 at 8:11 pm100% natural oils, moisture is key. Every hair type is different, so you have to find what works for you. It’s really trial and error to find what makes your particular curl pattern pop.

February 20, 2012 at 8:39 pmLabor day of 2011, I did this exact same cut(hand to GOD). I started following your blog about December/January, and decided to grow my hair back. WTH?? The grass is always greener.

February 20, 2012 at 10:21 pmI love the new ‘do! You wear it very well (: As far as products, I use Carol’s Daughter products, but am starting to wonder if I need to be spending so much money. I have found the forums at curlynikki dot com to be really helpful–so many people use so many different things, you may find it’s just trial and error.

February 21, 2012 at 3:50 amCute! Although it’s going to take some used to, because I loved all your styles when you had hair, lol. I’d recommend Shea Moisture products, which you could find at Target. They’re awesome and affordable! Along with your natural oils, as someone mentioned above (coconut, almond, etc). I’d also recommend natural African shea butter… it works wonders! Can’t wait to see your growth 🙂

February 21, 2012 at 2:27 pmI think you look great with the big chop. Second some products to use is find a good shampoo , conditioner, and moisturister. Keep it simple don’t get caught up in what everyone else is using. You have to find what products work for your hair. Its trial and error.

February 22, 2012 at 12:30 amYou look stunning….the cut makes your features POP! I’ve been natural nearly 3 years: don’t get caught up in this and that product. As the commenters above said, natural oils. Wash with a bit of baking soda and cheap condish and use coconut, Shea, almond, avocado oils to moisturizer and maintain.

February 22, 2012 at 1:35 amLove your hair!!! I’m so jealous! I want to do the big chop and I’m really only a minute from it as far as length is concerned, but I just won’t do it. But one of the best oils I have found and used is Now’s Apricot Oil. It mimics the hairs natural oils. I put it on before a conditioner. Makes the hair soft and supple.

February 24, 2012 at 7:58 pmYou look great, Prissy! I did the big chop way back in May ’10. I left out an inch, though. Also, I never ‘wore’ it out in public. *shrugs* I’m also #teamfoureyes! I only wear contacts when I’m heading out which is like once or twice a week.
Very nice outfit. Really feeling the clutch. Too cute.
